What is Solar Panel
A solar panel, also known as a photovoltaic (PV) panel, is a device that converts sunlight into electricity using the photovoltaic effect. Solar panels are composed of multiple solar cells made of semiconductor materials, such as silicon. These cells are typically arranged in a grid-like pattern and sandwiched between layers of protective materials, such as glass and polymer. When sunlight strikes the surface of a solar panel, it excites the electrons in the semiconductor material, generating an electric current.
The generated electricity is in the form of direct current (DC), which can be used immediately to power devices or stored in batteries for later use. In grid-tied solar systems, the electricity produced by solar panels is fed into the utility grid, offsetting electricity consumption from conventional sources and potentially earning credits or incentives through net metering programs.
How Solar Panel Works?
Solar panels work by converting sunlight into electricity through a process called the photovoltaic effect. Each solar panel is made up of many smaller units called solar cells, typically composed of silicon or other semiconductor materials.
When sunlight hits a solar panel, photons (particles of light) are absorbed by the solar cells. This absorption of photons causes the electrons in the semiconductor material to become energized, creating an electric current. The solar panel is connected to an inverter, which converts the DC electricity produced by the solar panel into alternating current (AC) electricity. AC electricity is the type of electricity used in most household appliances and the power grid.
The electricity generated by solar panels can be used immediately to power devices, appliances, or lighting within a home or business. Alternatively, it can be stored in batteries for later use or fed into the electrical grid to offset electricity consumption from conventional sources.
